US Transportation Chief to Unveil Revised Self-driving Car Guidelines

US Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao recently announced the Trump administration’s plans to unveil revised self-driving car guidelines this summer. It is unclear what impact the guidelines will have on the development of autonomous vehicles and consequently automobile insurance for such vehicles. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) continues to monitor autonomous vehicle developments with its Innovation and Technology Task Force.  As part of its 2018 charges, the NAIC Innovation and Technology Task force intends to discuss regulatory issues that may arise from autonomous vehicles, and if necessary consider white papers or model legislation.
